We often give people our pieces of wisdom, thinking that we’ve already gone through the pain of coming to a conclusion and we want to save others the painful and time consuming process. But sometimes it’s like giving someone a whole bunch of weight to lift when they haven’t built the muscle for it. It’s not helpful. They’ll just hurt themselves.
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
– Maimonides
It could be useless or rather harmful at times if people just follow what we said because we said it and haven’t worked out in the mental gymnasium to come to a conclusion themselves. Allow them to do their thing and maybe they’ll surprise you with a brand new perspective.
