Feel your feelings fully, truly, completely. Stay with them, acknowledge them, absorb them, let them take their own time to pass. Don’t feel compelled to react. Just be.
Emotions have a life of their own. They need to be acknowledged, respected, nurtured and channeled. If you dismiss them, suppress them or shove them in the corner, they won’t go anywhere but will keep growing and looking for nourishment themselves without your knowledge. Over time, they will pull you from within and morph you into something unrecognizable.
It might be less important to control our emotions than it is to learn how we respond to them. One must acknowledge the most uncomfortable feelings as much as the most pleasurable ones. No matter what they are, they are ours and coming from the depth of our consciousness. Acknowledging them and treating them with respect is a reflection of our own self-realization, self-respect and humility.
Our embarrassments and delusions cause us to dismiss our truest emotions; we live lives full of regrets; build a facade of lies to create an impression of a strong life structure, that we are grown-up, matured and have our shit together. But in the end it’s still just a facade for a hollow structure. It’ll do us much good over time if we focused on the foundation instead.
